* Most Valuable Lesson Learned (and this was before Hurricane Katrina):
After a major disaster, we are on our own. Do not expect professional emergency
responders to help victims for AT LEAST three days. Be prepared with water, food,
medical supplies (first aid and prescription medications), warm clothing, and emergency
shelter for a minimum of one week.
Find more information on preparing for a disaster at www.fema.gov, including:
• Family Disaster Plan
• Family Disaster Supplies Kit
• Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT program).
